“I am proud to be wearing the captain’s armband but in no way will it change my game or my way of being,” he says.
“But it’s a great mark of confidence on the part of my coach.”
The versatile defender, who was called up by New Caledonia for their opening matches in Stage 3 FIFA World Cup qualifying but did not take his place in the squad, will be hoping the injury he picked up during the first half of the 1-1 draw against Evian on the weekend will not see him sidelined.
The 25-year-old struggled with injury last season at Ligue 2 side Sedan and before Saturday’s match was pleased with how his season was progressing so far.
“I am very happy to be playing regularly,” he says.
“Last year I had some problems with an injury. This year everything is going well and I’m making the most of it.”
Although Lorient are one of three Ligue 1 teams who remain unbeaten with three wins and four draws from seven games, Lautoa says the team had to work hard to secure a result in a difficult match on Saturday.

Lautoa was expected to undergo an MRI scan this week and will hope to be fit enough to take his place in the side for the home clash against Olympique Lyon on Sunday.
