Among those attending was Don Bosco Technological Institute coordinator Francis Banania who said the course is fantastic for equipping coaches with the skills to prepare future footballers.
“I think what is best in the course is that it is giving awareness to the coaches in Papua New Guinea of the importance of giving kids a chance to play and develop the right attitude towards the game,” Banania says.
“My plan now after attending this course is to coordinate with my superiors to connect the Grassroots programme with the school’s social responsibility programme where, every Sunday we invite nearby communities to play soccer in the school and we also teach them good values.”
Banania is just one of the many coaches who benefitted from Chambron’s expertise over the five-day course.
The course covers the basics of professional coaching using both theory and practical sessions to teach tactical and technical skills that will aid the development of debuting footballers.
PNGFA CEO Dimirit Mileng encouraged participants to return to their respective clubs and villages and put in practice all that they had learnt.
“You’ve all learned new skills and gained a wealth of knowledge on this course, now I encourage you to go back to your respective member associations and develop the beautiful game further.”
The FIFA Grassroots Coaching Course was held in Lae, Papua New Guinea from 16-20 June.
