The course was officially opened this morning by Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) general secretary Eddie Ngava, who issued a challenge to the participants to gather as much knowledge from the sessions as possible and use it to contribute to football development in their clubs and communities.
“It is pleasing to see for the first time that there are more women than men in a course for women’s football,” he said.
“You must all learn from this course and, by the end, I expect to see a difference in the way you deliver football training in your communities.”
The course is being conducted by OFC Women’s Development Officer Nicola Demaine with support from SIFF technical department members Diane Justus, who is responsible for the female game in the Solomons, and Gideon Omokirio.
In her address during the opening ceremony, Demaine highlighted FIFA’s commitment to the development of women’s football throughout the world and thanked the participants for taking the time and effort to be involved.
“The success of women’s football in recent years has resulted in a call for more emphasis to be placed on it and FIFA is striving to take it forward in all parts of the world,” she said.
“This week’s course is a precursor as more programmes will be coming in the future.”
