Despite a number of scoring opportunities for both sides, a combination of good goalkeeping and some poor finishing meant the match ended 0-0 at the Fiji FA Academy in Vatuwaqa.
Still tied after five penalty attempts, Rewa hammered their sixth home via Latileta Daveitaua before a miss from Labasa sealed the result and gave Rewa their first Champion vs Champion title.
Rewa coach Marika Rodu says his side benefited from a tough encounter against Ba on the first day of the tournament, which steeled them for the physical nature of the final.
“We had a hard game against Ba – which we won on penalties also – and while that was difficult at the time it was good for us in the end,” Rodu says.
“I think the girls showed really good character and determination, as well as commitment to each other.
“The physical factor was big in the final, and I spoke to the girls about that and encouraged them to keep supporting each other.
“We fought long and hard and in the end played really.
“This is history for the Rewa women’s team because we have won the championship for the first time.”
Labasa coach Arthur Simmons now hopes the disappointment of defeat will drive his team to success at the upcoming Fiji FA Women’s Inter District Championship.

“We are optimistic despite losing this time,” Simmons says.
“Now we go back to the drawing board and iron out our mistakes ahead of the IDC.
“I am proud of my players, they gave their best until the final whistle.”
The Champion vs Champion competition was contested by the best team from north and west of Fiji, along with the top two teams from the south.
Earlier in the day Ba defeated Nasinu 4-1 in the third and fourth play-off.
