The annual course took place earlier this month at the Fédération Tahitienne De Football Academy in Pirae and was attended by 28 participants, including two member association (MA) instructors.
It was led by a trio of instructors from FIFA – referee development officer Massimo Raveino (Tahiti), technical advisor Neil Poloso (Solomon Islands) and fitness trainer Jean Claude Perand (Tahiti).
The course had two main goals – to increase the quality of the instructors, as well as educating the referees and assistant referees.
The participants took part in a range of theoretical and practical sessions and had to show what they were made of during some strenuous fitness tests.
“The course was very successful,” Raveino says.
“The interest and willingness to learn shown by the participants contributed greatly to its success.”
He was particularly impressed with the ability of the instructors.
“Both MA instructors were able to present the sessions with good confidence with the latest teaching aids and equipment. The level of instructions on the different topics was also very well presented and showed a high level of technical knowledge.”
