The weather conditions forced some last minutes changes to the schedule but the event was a great success as clubs gathered to reflect on another successful season of football in Samoa.
Hosted by FFS technical development officer Martin Tamasese, the ceremony kicked off with an opening prayer by special guest Reverend Muao Su’a and was followed by an address from FFS acting President Reverend Laupama Solomona.
Over 70 trophies and more than 35,000 Tala were handed out to the winning teams and standout players from the seven tournaments held over the 2013/14 season.
FFS CEO Sarai Bareman says the success of the season can be attributed to the large numbers now getting involved in the game.
She adds that everyone’s participation and support of FFS activities is a boost for the future of Samoan football.
Kiwi FC continued to dominate the domestic standings as they took out both the men’s and women’s National League and Cup tournaments.
Vaimoso SC also picked up their fair share of prizes, collecting the U-12 Boy’s National League title, U-17 Boy’s Cup and the Women’s Futsal.
Individual awards were also handed out to outstanding players over a variety of disciplines.
Benson Hunt of Vaitoloa Soccer Club was named Golden Boot and MVP for the Men’s First Division. Silao Malo from Vaimoso SC topped the Men’s Premier League and happily took home the MVP award as well, while Letti Tamasese from Kiwi FC was recognised for her on-field talent in the Women’s League.
“The 2013/14 season has been a success,” Bareman says.
“We added two new tournaments to the annual calendar this year and I am happy to say that we now have ten months of ongoing competition for our member clubs.”
The 2014/15 season will get underway in September 2014.
