The decision follows an increase in executive member numbers at the congress in Kimbe and is intended to address football development and membership in the respective regions.
Each regional body is automatically chaired and co-chaired by the PNGFA executives based in the region as follows – Momase: Sigi Beschel of Madang Soccer Association and Shem Farock of Wau Soccer Association; New Guinea Islands: Kurt Reimann of Kimbe Soccer Association and Jospeh Maineke of Bougainville Soccer Association; Southern: Wayne Taylor of POMSOE and Simon Koima of NCD Public Servants; Highlands: Paddy Kelly of Goroka Soccer Association.
The regional executives will conduct regular meetings to address development and membership in their respective regions and have also been authorised by the PNGFA to accept associate members.
PNGFA vice-president Linda Wonuhali says the association will be able to assist the regions with human resource development in the fields of coaching, refereeing and administration.
“The new structure is a positive challenge to assist with the further development of the sport across the country,” Wonuhali says.
“Embracing new associate members in the coming years will grow the football family in PNG from the pikinini at grassroots to the National Soccer League.
“This will provide a pathway for all to participate in international tournaments through selection for national team duties in all age groups and genders – exciting times are ahead.”
