Sherman became the youngest UEFA A Licence holder when he earned the coaching badge in 2010, was the Youth Development Coach and Regional Academy Manager at Southhampton Football Club and has previous experience with Everton, Wolverhampton Wolves and Swansea City.
He is the son of New Zealand Football technical director Rob Sherman, and CIFA President Lee Harmon believes that is a factor which could lead to increased collaboration between the two OFC Member Associations.
“We are thrilled by Drew’s acceptance of this role. He will no doubt bring a lot of experience and has a lot of football contacts outside the Cook Islands which will no doubt be beneficial,” Harmon says.
“On top of that he is young and possesses a lot of energy which will come in handy as he helps to improve football in the Cook Islands.”
Sherman’s role will see him become responsible for the direction of all football programmes with CIFA, including Coach Education, Player Development and international teams.
He will also be in charge of the Cook Islands national men’s team as they prepare for the forthcoming FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
