Despite taking an early lead through Alvin Avinesh, Lautoka couldn’t hold on to their advantage as three goals went unanswered by the home side.
Roneel Kumar was the first to score just ahead of the break before Avinesh Swamy knocked one in ten minutes into the second period. Osea Vakatalesau secured the win with an 81st minute strike, ending any hopes of a Lautoka comeback.
Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel said the standard of football in this year’s edition of the annual competition was very high.
“Now in the tournaments none of the teams can be taken lightly,” Patel said.
“We saw that right up until the last pool games, teams were still in with a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals. District teams have improved and this brings the development that Fiji FA has envisioned to fruition.
“Many people had been thinking that Nadroga would go out of the tournament early but they proved otherwise. The side has worked hard. Their victory over Suva proves that home-grown talent has what it takes to win matches.”
