It will be a battle of the provinces with the cream of Papua New Guinea’s local talent pool pitted against each other.
Tournament director Simon Koima says the men’s games will be played at Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium while the women’s matches will be held at the PNGFA Academy located 18km outside of Lae.
Six men’s teams – Goroka, Wau, LFA, Port Moresby Soccer Association, Koupa and Kimbe – and four women’s sides – Kimbe, PMSA, Goroka and Lahi – will be competing for the top honours.
All of the teams participating in the finals earned their spot after taking the titles, or runners-up position, in their respective regional qualifiers.
Hosts Lae FA will be looking to successfully defend the title they earned last year, but face some stiff competition from the other contenders.
LFA’s aggressiveness and competitiveness has seen them rise to glory on several occasions in the past but it’s their consistency that has really helped them.
PMSA already sounded an early warning with an unbeaten run during the Southern Region Tournament in Alotau.
Another strong contender is Koupa from Central Province. The dark horses from Kaparoko proved their worth when they beat Public Servants Soccer Association (PSSA) in their Southern Regional qualifier.
