Brown returned home to New Zealand yesterday and will undergo surgery on his shoulder tomorrow in Auckland. Brown broke a bone in his shoulder during the All Whites’ 2-1 loss to Australia at the MCG on Monday.
Peverley was part of the domestic training camp held in Auckland earlier this month but missed selection in the original World Cup squad of 23 announced by coach Ricki Herbert on May 10.
The 21-year-old was a member of the New Zealand Olympic team at Beijing in 2008 and was also selected in the Oceania All Stars team that played the LA Galaxy in December of the same year.
He will leave for the All Whites’ pre-World Cup camp in Austria this evening. New Zealand play Serbia on Sunday morning and Slovakia the following Saturday.
A decision on Brown’s availability for the World Cup will be made after consultation with his surgeon later next week.
