It was during an exceptional evening of entertainment at the Grand Theatre of the Cultural House in Tahiti that a jury, headed by LOC board member John Teai, chose Sabrina’s song to represent Polynesian culture at the Beach Soccer World Cup.
In a similar fashion to the launch of the tournament emblem on 18 September, 2012, the four artists competing to have their song chosen, Sabrina, Haunui, Tapuarii and Pepena, performed for the jury and a full house.
The melody, local sounds of the ukuele, the lyrics in line with the event, the charm and the enthusiasm of Sabrina eventually led to the lone female artist competing to win the competition.
During the song, Sabrina invites the world’s greatest beach soccer players to give their best on the sands of Tahiti: “Tout le monde veut jouer, tout le monde veut gagner. Everybody wants to play, everybody wants to win“, the lyrics read.
Given the popularity of the events organised by the COL and thereaction of the public to the results of the evening on 22 March, there is no doubt that Tahiti and its visitors are just waiting for the kick-off of this huge event which will take place at Tahua To’ata from 18-28 September 2013, and the chance to dance to the sounds of Tu’e Popo.
