HONIARA – Fresh from New Zealand, last seasons top scorer Kidston Billy helped his local club Uncles FC beat Naha 4-1 in the DJ league at Lawson Tama last week.
The classy striker, who plays for Nelson Suburbs in the New Zealand Southern Premier League, scored the opening goal after ten minutes of play and helped create the other three.
The victory keeps Uncles on an unbeaten run and puts them top equal in the standings with Makuru.
Uncles started the brighter side of the two, with Judd Molea taking control of the match from midfield . His opposite number, Joe Manu gave as good as he got and created a real battle in the middle of the park.
The game soon turned Uncles way when a ball delivered from wide found Billy’s chest in the penalty box. Allowing the ball to rest on the ground, Billy turned on his magic and slotted home.
His young brother Junior almost added a second a minute later, only to see his header saved by the Naha goalie. From then on it was all Uncles.
Billy nearly scored his second when he beat two defenders and chipped the ball over the keeper.
But Naha’s veteran winger, Eddie Rukumana provided cover for his goalkeeper just in time to deny Billy his second.
The second half was more entertaining with Naha showing their fighting spirit. Naha brought in national striker Stanley Waita and in the 54th minute, the striker showed his class with a clinical finish inside the box.
The combined attacking force of Billy and Molea proved too much for the Naha defenders. This resulted in a penalty which, unusually, Billy squandered.
Soon after Molea fired home a trademark free kick just outside the penalty box to send Uncles up 2-1.
Uncles continued the onslaught and Hollard Sikou found the third in the 64th minute. Kelisia Feni put the final nail in the coffin in the 89th minute to send Uncles fans into rapture.
Uncles star midfielder, 20-year old Judd Molea rose to pole position in the Honiara DJ League golden boot race after netting his sixth goal of the season in the match.
His strike raised him above Nathan Kera of Marist and Zome Mars’ James Naka who are on five goals each.
Other strikers currenlty sitting on five goals include Lore Foanaota and Batram Suri.
