Attended by 12 coaches, including those of the teams participating in the recently established U-17 Women’s Competition, the course covered both the technical and tactical aspects of coaching the female version of the world game.
VFF Women’s Development Officer Rorona Kalsakau says the course will be of great value in educating coaches working in the development of women aged between 13 and 17 years old.
The Port Vila-based U-17 women’s seven-a-side competition began in September and Kalsakau says it is reflective of the VFF’s commitment to strengthening women’s football.
The course, held on October 22 and 23, had a strong focus on session planning and its practical application, Demaine says.
“We also spent time looking at how to use teaching games for better understanding of skills, that is designing a game specifically to build success of certain skills, which we then applied in our practical sessions.”
She says having so many participants from the same competition attending a course is novel, but will allow each of them to immediately put to use the knowledge and skills they have acquired.
“The great thing is that they all had a go at applying the skills in the practical sessions so hopefully what they have learnt will be utilised with their teams.”
Whether the course has been a success will be judged by what can be seen out on the pitch.
“As I said to them at the end, if you don’t all go and use what you have learnt here, but half of you do, you will see the results in your next match.”
