HONIARA – Rangers FC ended its DJ Graphics League winless streak after a resounding 4-2 win over Walas at Lawson
Tama Stadium at the weekend. Goals from Solomon Islands internationals Godwin Bebeu and David Taro propelled Rangers FC into 9th place on the table after months of languishing in
bottom-place.

Victory came as a welcome relief for team coach and former Solomon Islands international midfielder Matai Vave.

Speaking shortly after the match to SIFF Media, Vave admitted that the victory had required a supreme effort from his beleaguered squad after five previous
abortived attempts at registering three points.

Bebeu – dropped from the Solomon Islands Olympic squad – and David Taro inspired Rangers FC victory, but it was not an easy ride as Walas pushed Rangers FC
all the way particularly in the first half.

But Rangers FC managed to get its act together in the second half and score three quckfire goals in the game’s final ten minutes to secure victory.

Bebeu struck twice in the second half after Taro (pictured below, in action for the Solomon Islands national team) had given Rangers FC the lead through
a first half penalty.

Walas striker Michael Taeman is fast emerging as one of the DJ League’s most exciting talents and the youngster gave his club a lifeline with a well-earned
equaliser before half-time.

In what would prove to be a turning point in the match just before halftime, Taeman was brought down in the Rangers FC penalty area but the resulting
spot-kick was saved by goalkeeper Newton Billy.

When match resumed Taro – who played in the midfield in the first half – was sent to the back to bolster their defense.

The move paid off for Rangers FC as further raids by Walas’s forwards were thwarted by the Taro-led rearguard.

As the match wore on, it became obvious that players of both teams were not match fit and fatigue crept in as they struggled to maintain their
composure.

Bebeu capitalized on the tiring Walas defence and was awarded the match’s third penalty kick of an exciting afternoon but sensationally the
resulting  kick was saved by Walas keeper.

Walas’ never surrender attitude helped eke out a second goal when Taeman unleashed a powerful shot that Newton Billy could only parry into the path of a
lurking Walas striker to tap home from point blank range.

With Walas leading 2-1, Rangers FC hopes of securing its first win appeared remote until Taro gave his team a lifeline when he blasted in a free-kick from 20
yards out to level the scores.

With the match poised delicately at 2-2, Godwin Bebeu added a quick-fire brace in the final ten minutes to deliver Mave’s team a much-needed morale boosting
DJ Graphics League victory.
