Venue packs for all regions have been on general sale for less than three months – venue packs include tickets for all group matches and the knock-out Round of 16 match. Individual tickets do not go on sale until after the official draw next February.
“This is a great result in what is a rather unique situation. People are securing seats at their local venue, despite not knowing who are the final teams coming and where they will be playing. We believe fans here understand they may not get this chance again in their lifetime so are making sure they don’t miss out,” said Dave Beeche, Local Organising Committee CEO FIFA U-20 NZ 2015.
As part of the LOC’s (Local Organising Committee) legacy commitment to grassroots support and growth across the game, clubs were offered a cash back rebate on all venue pack purchases through their club as well as an early-bird discount.
“That rebate tally has now reached $25,000. These funds will be reinvested back into clubs and the development of the game. It’s been a real win-win initiative – one we are soon to offer into schools,” said Beeche.
Like clubs, schools will be able to group purchase venue packs, sit together in their team colours in reserved sections of the stands and enjoy the fruits of a financial return to be invested in their school football programme.
The Hamilton North Football Club is an example of this success story. Making the most of the early-bird discount and club offers, almost half of their entire membership bought 97 venue packs, enabling them to show off their club colours en masse in a reserved section of Waikato Stadium and earn nearly $300 for their club. Some of the larger clubs have earned $600 cash back so far with the chance to earn more.
“Nine months out from the tournament, our ticket sales, host region preparations and tournament planning are all tracking extremely well. This is a positive sign, reflecting the support, excitement and high expectations New Zealanders have of this global football event,” said Beeche.
With the qualifying tournaments of the various global federations being staggered across the coming months, the Official Draw announcement is set to take place in February next year. This will trigger individual ticket sales which will open up once all teams have qualified and the regions they will play in have been determined.
“We already have Fiji as the other Oceania entry alongside hosts New Zealand, and they will be joined by UEFA qualifiers Germany, Serbia, Ukraine, Portugal, Hungary and Austria. The German side was in outstanding form at the UEFA qualifying tournament and will be looking to back-up their nation’s World Cup winning performance in Brazil and their Women’s U-20 title in Canada,” said Beeche.
