Two matches will take place involving the New Zealand representatives in the 2012 O-League, the winner of which qualifies for the FIFA Club World Cup, while an historic moment will occur when the Wellington Phoenix take to Eden Park to play an A-League match in Auckland for the first ever time in the club’s history.
In collaboration with New Zealand Football and Auckland City FC, OFC has altered the kick-off time for Auckland’s O-League game against Papua New Guinea side Hekari United to 2pm on Saturday 19 November, thus giving fans the chance to watch the match before making the short trip down the road to Eden Park for the Phoenix clash against Adelaide United from 5pm.
The meeting between defending champions Auckland and 2010 winners Hekari was originally scheduled to kick off at 3pm.
And the action does not stop there with another mouth-watering tie in store on Sunday when Waitakere United are set to host Fijian foes Ba in the O-League at Whenuapai’s Fred Taylor Park from 3pm.
As there is a strong Fijian community in Auckland and the Waitakere squad features Fiji international Roy Krishna, a well-known figure in his homeland, a large crowd is expected and the club will install extra seating for 500 people.
The match is a replay of the 2007 O-League final, the second leg of which drew a crowd of nearly 10,000 to Auckland’s Mt Smart Stadium. Waitakere won 1-0 to level the score 2-2 on aggregate and qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup on the away goals rule.
Waitakere officials are urging fans to turn up in plenty of time for the first O-League meeting of the sides since that dramatic final as car parking and viewing spots will be at a premium.
