Six teams are taking part in the FTF supported eight-a-side league; Faa’a, Punaauia, Pirae, Papeete, Mahina and Arue.
OFC Technical Director Patrick Jacquemet made a recent return to Tahiti to run a FIFA Women’s Coaching Course which he believes was an excellent starting point for the coaches and players going into the Te Vahine season.
“I think it was a very successful week spent with some motivated and talented coaches,” Jacquemet said.
“We can see that these young women are dedicated to developing women’s football here. The Live Your Goals festival was a perfect example of that, with young girls able to give football a go and that leads into the beginnning of the league.
“All of this helps to promote the women’s game and with more events and competitions to come women’s football will take off.”
The opening results of Te Vahine saw Mahina leap to the top of the standings after recording an impressive 11-0 victory over Arue. However wins for Faa’a and Pirae over Punaauia and Papeete respectively mean they’re not too far behind either.
