SOLOMON ISLANDS – UNCLES CONTINUE GOOD FORM IN CLUB CHAMPS

In the showcase of Match Day 8 of the 2009 Our Telekom National Club Championship, former semi-finalists Uncles ended Gossa’s hopes with a heart-breaking 2 – 1 win at Honiara’s Lawson Tama stadium.

Uncles entered the game with high spirits after downing Kossa 1 – 0 while Gossa had nothing to lose after losing their previous three matches.

Gossa put up a strong fight despite going down a goal in the 6th minute when Billy Olomani Jnr scored for Uncles. Tuti Zama equalised in the 26th minute and it remained 1-1 for most of the game before Frazer Maebule’s scored a last minute clincher.

The win keeps Uncles at the top of Group B while Gossa are languishing at the bottom of the table having not picked up a single point.

Sitting just behind Uncles on seven points is Makuru who also enjoyed a victory on Match Day 8 against Malu’u.

After an equally fought first half, it was Malu’u who got on the score cards first in the 40th minute with a strike from John Wawane.  They extended their lead just two minutes later through their super striker, Selwyn Junior.

Makuru rallied in the second half and found a hero in Commins Menapi who scored just after the break and again in the latter stages of the game after Paul Kakai Jnr had already scored the equalizer for Makuru in the 66th minute.

The 3-2 thriller keeps Makuru’s hopes of making the semi-final alive while Malu’u drop to fourth in Group B and face an uphill battle.

In Group A action on Match Day 8, Marist further secured their claim for a semi-final berth with a 4 – 0 win over tournament first timers Soloso of Western Province. Lenson Bisili scored two in the first half while new recruit Michael Taeman scored two in the second.

Marist now sit top equal with Koloale who have a game in hand.
