Winston Reid produced a top-class display for West Ham United in logging 90 minutes after the long journey back to England and helping the Hammers keep a clean sheet in a goalless draw with Norwich City.
West Ham’s official website lauded Reid’s performance:
“The 24-year-old was everywhere, winning headers, making vital interceptions and looking comfortable in possession – traits that have been typical of the defender signed from Danish side FC Midtjylland in the summer of 2010.”
After a tough first campaign in English football that ended with West Ham being relegated, Reid made himself indispensable last season as the Hammers won promotion and has arguably reached even greater highs in helping his side to keep three clean sheets in their opening four league matches.
All Whites captain Ryan Nelsen also performed strongly in Queens Park Rangers’ scoreless home draw with Chelsea and was nominated as man-of-the-match by Sky Sports:
“Ryan Nelsen marshalled the QPR defence and ensured Fernando Torres was so frustrated the Chelsea striker went straight down the tunnel after being substituted.”
Manager Mark Hughes also praised Nelsen’s performance on the official QPR website.
“Ryan has travelled halfway around the world in the week and I thought he produced an outstanding performance for us,” Hughes said.
