Three of the four competing sides – Brisbane Roar, Perth Glory, Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC – have current or former Football Ferns on their books.
The four teams face off in knock-out semi finals football with the action kicking off on Saturday January 19 with premiers Brisbane Roar renewing their fierce rivalry with Sydney FC at the Queensland Sport & Athletic Centre (QSAC) in Brisbane.
Former international striker Emma Kete, current midfielder Annalie Longo and Hannah Bromley have all played a part for Sydney this season with Kete scoring five goals in her 12 appearances and Longo playing a more prominent role as the league progressed.
The second semi final will see this season’s surprise packet Perth Glory host their first ever finals match against Melbourne Victory at nib Stadium in Perth on Sunday January 20.
Defenders Liz Milne (Perth) and Rebekah Stott (Melbourne) have been virtually ever-present for their respective sides recording big minutes over the regular season.
“The W-League 2012/13 Season has been the biggest, best and most competitive yet with the four finalists only cementing their positions in the top four following the final round of the regular season,” head of the W-League Damien de Bohun says.
“Football fans have responded to the quality we’ve seen on the pitch with strong attendances around the country helping drive the league.”
The winners of this weekend’s two semi finals will face off in the W-League 2013 Grand Final on Sunday, 27 January at a yet to be confirmed venue.
Kete and perennial Football Ferns goalkeeping understudy Aroon Clansey claimed the 2012 W-League title with Canberra United last year.
