Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) chief executive officer Bob Kumar says the project is in its second stage and should be completed by some time early next year.
“Work is in progress at the moment and we are looking at its completion for early 2011,” he says.
“Much of the work has been held up this year due to the rainy weather conditions but we are pleased that the project continues to progress.”
The new national football academy will house the Fiji FA headquarters, training facilities and accomodation for the players.
The construction of the new facilities was made possible by FIFA’s Goal Project – an initiative by the governing body to help countries around the world construct their very own homes of football and technical facilities.
It is not the first time the Fiji FA has benefitted from the scheme. The association’s first goal project was set up in Ba where the current national football academy is located.
There have also been plenty of other improvements to Fiji FA’s facilities in recent months. A new futsal court has been officially opened in Ba while the flood lights at Govind Park have also been upgraded.
