The season opener saw the side go down 2-0 to Shepherds United and although their form returned last weekend with a 4-0 win over Tupuji Imere – the team which eliminated Amicale during the quarter-finals of the pre-season Opening Cup – Chabod believes there is more work to do.
“I know that the team isn’t having its best moments and our coaches are still looking for a way to make this team click,” he says.
“Everything is going to be difficult. Last year was also difficult to win. We had to get things started and now we must continue to play quality football if we want to be champions again.”
Amicale have signed players from Solomon Islands, Fiji and Australia in previous years and added another country to that list this season with the arrival of Brazilian duo Jefferson Moura and Ezequiel Paulo Da Cruz.
The pair are likely to take time to settle though and Chabod is pleading for patience from the Reds’ fanatical supporters.
“People are a little impatient I guess, we are performing well but we had a difficult time against Tupuji Imere in the Opening Cup because all our players were not ready,” he says.
“Every team is difficult because there is not much of a difference between the sides in the premier league and for us it is like a war in every single match. We need to perform well every week and get as many points as we can.”
While he acknowledges the team has some work to do, Chabod is also full of praise over Amicale’s performance last weekend.
“The boys were back to real football and they played well against a Tupuji Imere team which kept themselves behind the ball at all times and waited for us to attack. We worked hard to find space and we were rewarded with four beautiful goals,” he says.
“The players put on a very good performance, especially the scorers Jean Nako, Moffat Deramoa and Gibson Daudau, and we are looking forward to playing Erakor Golden Star this Saturday.”
