Having recently announced Australian Frank Farina as their new head coach, the senior men’s team will go into camp on Sunday in preparation for upcoming friendlies against the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
And Fiji FA vice-president and national team director, Tarunesh Reddy, says the organisation is on the verge of securing a number of other overseas matches for Fiji’s U-17, U-20, U-23 and senior men’s sides.
“We have programmes lined up and talks are ongoing for more international matches for various national teams,” Reddy said.
“As the FIFA window approaches we will try and get more matches. We have approached some of the countries and are hopeful of a positive outcome.
“Frank has already talked to me about playing some teams in Spain. We had an option to play in Dubai for one match, but going there and playing one match is not viable.
“There are plans to play in Asia and we will definitely look into that.”
Meanwhile, Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel says their affiliates in New Zealand and Australia are also willing to assist.
“We have very good relationships with New Zealand and Australia, and they have been very supportive on our international tours,” Patel says.
“Whatever the cost of the trip those two associations are ready to help.
“They will look after the team and we only have to pay the airfare to get the team there.”
The 34-man preliminary Fiji squad for the November friendly matches against the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu was named by Farina yesterday.
