The five-day course was conducted by FIFA Instructor Didier Chambaron – the head of OFC’s training and education programme – at the Vanuatu Football Federation (VFF) academy in Teouma and was attended by 35 participants.
The ‘C’ Licence is part of OFC’s FIFA-funded coaching accreditation pathway, which outlines the necessary requirements for coaches to progress from a ‘D’ Licence to an ‘A’ Licence and covers all levels of the game including grassroots, youth and senior football.
In order to qualify for the ‘C’ Licence, all participants must already have obtained a ‘D’ Licence and be coaching a youth or senior team at the community level.
VFF technical director Charles Vatu was pleased to see so many of the football-mad nation’s coaches take the next step in their burgeoning careers and believes the fruits of that labour will soon be borne.
“We are delighted to have hosted this important course,” Vatu says.
“We are grateful for all the participants for taking part and upgrading their skills so we can work together to improve the sport in this country.”
The participants were taken through a series of practical and theoretical sessions by Chambaron as they looked to increase their understanding of the technical side of the game.
The Frenchman was delighted with the successful outcomes of the course and believes the coaches of Vanuatu have plenty of potential.
“The most important thing is not just participating but putting things into practice,” he says.
“Most of the coaches know what they are doing in terms of planning their programme and organising their sessions. It can take over 10 years for a coach to become successful and, in order to obtain all the necessary qualities, coaches must be serious in what they are doing.”
Chambaron says the key to becoming a top-class coach is putting in the hours.
“There are no secrets to success. To be successful, you must work hard. The participants have learned a lot of techniques of coaching in the last few days and, if they all work hard and deliver the right coaching methods, I believe their players will play quality football.”
