The men’s team saw off its rivals to take the title in the Round Cup while their female counterparts did likewise in the women’s division of the tournament.
It was a nail-biting finish to the men’s season with Tupapa needing three points from their last game to edge out Nikao Sokattak, who finished closely behind in second.
Third-place getters Takuvaine dug deep to nearly catch up to the leaders and overtook Titikaveka and Arorangi to surge forward from their earlier position of fifth.
Tupapa goalkeeper, and recently appointed Cook Islands Football Federation technical director, Tony Jamieson was delighted with the championship win and was quick to pay tribute to those behind the scenes.
“It has been a close competition right to the end,” he said.
“The support from our club has helped us to achieve this success.”
Tupapa president John Paul Wilson was happy to have provided that support and feels it is a vital ingredient to the running of a successful outfit.
“Supporting players throughout the competition is important, it keeps the vibe and mood alive which I believe motivates them to perform and win games,” he said.
“I would like to congratulate the players not only from our club but from the other participating clubs for a good contest throughout the competition.”
Not to be outdone, the Tupapa women also gave themselves reason to celebrate after taking their title ahead of runners-up Arorangi and third-placed Nikao Sokattak.
“I am extremely proud of these young ladies for their success and it is my hope that they continue to develop in football so that the other young players will see their achievements,” coach Sandy Pomat said.
