Five members of that historic Tiki Toa squad were in Switzerland with their Swiss coach Angelo Schirinzi to help them successfully defend their title in a repeat of the 2013 final against Grasshopper Club Zurich.
Angleo Tchen, Heimanu Taiarui, Marama Amau and Tehei Hauata were joined by the 2013 Swiss Beach Soccer League top scorer Tearii Labaste.
Having fallen 8-6 in their previous encounter with Grasshopper Club Zurich to miss out on a consecutive championship and cup double it was with a hint of revenge that the Sable Dancers took to the pitch in the final.
The Grasshoppers weren’t about to give up their own chance of a double so lightly however as they found themselves behind 2-1 after the first period of action.
A bit of Tahitian pressure helped turn the match around as the Berne-based side overcame their opponents 7-5.
Following their success in Switzerland the five players are set to return to French Polynesia where they will join their clubs in the lead up to the 2014/15 Ligue 1 season, as well as getting ready for next year’s FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup qualifiers.
