Iaruel became the first goalkeeper to get his name on the scoresheet in the National Super League competition after sending Erakor’s goalkeeper Ernest Bong diving in the wrong direction as he took aim from the penalty spot in the 35th minute of the match.
His teammates Nichol Tari and Eddison Stephen added to the Reds tally to give them a comprehensive victory, with the three points enough to secure the side second place in the group and the chance to take on Northern region leaders Uripiv FC in one of the semi-finals.
The Moise Poida coached side has since secured their place in the final against the seasoned Amicale after downing Uripiv FC 3-0 in the weekend’s semi-final match.
Poida says his players are ready for the challenge of unseating the four-time Vanuatu champions.
“A final match is a final and all my boys are ready to play that important game – we win or we lose, we will accept it,” Poida says.
The two sides met earlier in the competition and with the score locked at 0-0 for that match, the grand-final is shaping up to be a huge challenge for both teams.
The Vanuatu National Soccer League grand final between Amicale and Tafea will be held at Port Vila Stadium on Saturday, 15 June with kick-off at 2.30pm. The winner of the match will represent Vanuatu in the 2014 OFC Champions League.
