Fiji U-20 play four build up matches in Australia – two with Hyundai A-League opponents – before making their way to New Zealand for the OFC President’s Cup, scheduled for the Trust Arena in Auckland from November 17-23.
Fiji has been seeded in Group B alongside Amicale FC (Vanuatu) and Busaiteen (Bahrain) at the OFC President’s Cup.
Vodafone’s Chief Marketing Officer, Sanjeewa Perera says the communications giants are proud to back the youngsters who won the OFC U-20 Men’s Championship in May.
“We are here to support the team all the way and to do the country proud,” he said, “We at Vodafone Fiji would like to take this opportunity to wish our young squad – the Vodafone Fiji U-20 football team the very best for their build up matches in Australia and the OFC President’s Cup in New Zealand.”
Perera says they are hopeful of a good performance by the Fiji U-20 side which will also feature at the FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015.
“The Australian tour and the participation of the team in the OFC President’s Cup in New Zealand will help prepare the team for the challenges ahead.
“This sort of exposure at an international level will assist the team to build their confidence and composure, and hopefully, reach the required level of competition to perform well at next year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup.
“I wish the Vodafone Fiji U-20 football team, coaches and officials the very best on their tour to Australia and New Zealand.
“We are confident and optimistic that the team will pull some surprises.”
Bob Kumar, the Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) CEO says his federation and the squad and staff were humbled by the firm support from Vodafone.
“Vodafone through their strong backing of football in Fiji has become a powerful factor that has contributed towards the success of the team.
“On behalf of the football community in our nation, I must thank them using a catchphrase of their own: “Power to You”,”Kumar said.
Fiji U-20 starts its OFC President’s Cup campaign on Monday 17 November when they face Vanuatu club side, Amicale at The Trusts Arena at 7.30pm NZST.
They complete the group stage on Friday 21 November when they take on Busaiteen at the same time and venue.
The OFC President’s Cup playoffs kick into action on Sunday 23 November.
