Boosted with the services of O-League stars Roy Krishna (Waitakere United) and Pita Bolaitoga (Hekari United), the Labasa side beat Suva 2-0 at Subrail Park.
Vanuatu International Joseph Nimariau and U-20 national rep Ilisoni Logaivou scored a goal each.
Elsewhere, Hekari United striker Tuimasi Manuca scored the lone goal for his Ba side’s close 1-0 victory over Tavua at Govind Park.
Defending Fiji FACT champions Navua were pushed to the limits against a fired up Nasinu but a goal in the first minute of play by US based Stefan Clemens was the difference in the 1-0 victory at TFL National Stadium in Suva.
Gurjit Singh the Navua head coach believes his players will need to pull their socks up if they are to defend their title.
“I’m not very pleased with the performance. We had a lot of opportunities but the boys could not capitalize. The first game of the tournament is always difficult and we were expecting a competitive match against Nasinu.
“The Fiji FACT will be tough but we are looking forward to our remaining pool matches,” Singh said.
Nasinu coach and former national player Ravuama Madigi added that his side needed a quick recovery before their next match.
“Our defence, midfield and attack were good but we lacked in the finishing. We will go back and work on the weak areas for the next game which is very crucial for us,” Madigi said.
Navua and Nasinu are in Pool Two alongside giants Ba, Rewa and Tavua. Lautoka, Suva, Labasa, Nadi and Nadroga are in Pool One.
In the other result at the weekend Nadroga and Nadi played to a 1-1 draw at Lawaqa Park.
The tournament proper starts this Thursday at Churchill Park in Lautoka. The final is scheduled to be played 3pm on Sunday.
