Fenedy Mausafakalo got the scoring off to a start when he chipped the ball over the advancing Spirit 08 goalkeeper in the 16th minute.
Just 11 minutes later, Solomon Islands international Batram Suri added a superb goal to give Amical a 2-0 lead, before a Richard Garae strike put the game beyond Spirit 08’s reach.
Fleet-footed striker Suri is one of five players from the Solomons at the club, the others are Nelson Sale, Kidston Billy, Richard Anisua and Mostyn Sanga.
Amical team manager Andrew Leong says they are happy about their win and are looking forward to taking part in the O-League.
“Now that we have fulfilled our objective, I could bring in more players from the Solomon Islands and Australia to boost our team to another level. I will be aiming for the top title and also wish to give back to the grassroots,” he says.
The 2011 O-League kicks off in October and Amical have been drawn to play defending champions Hekari United from Papua New Guinea, Solomon side Koloale FC and Fiji’s Lautoka FC in Group A.
Group B includes the two New Zealand teams, Auckland City FC and Waitakere United FC, Tahiti’s AS Tefana and New Caldenonia club AS Magenta.
Amical’s O-League campaign will begin against Hekari on the weekend of October 23-24 in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
They will take over Vanuatu’s O-League mantle from Tafea FC, who represented the country in the 2009/10 competition.
