While in the other match, champions Hekari United would not have done their Oceania Champions League preparations any favours when they couldn’t find the net against the lowly rated Admiralty.
However it was the underrated and not considered premiership material Oro under the helm of former international Joe Turia that threw caution to the wind.
Turia’s men went for the upper-cut and got their more fancied opponent off-guard and struggling for composure in a whirlwind performance at Bomana on Saturday.
After the match, Turia said it was surprise win for him here like everyone else in the competition.
“I did my homework to get the boys to put pressure on certain areas and it certainly paid off by dismantling their (FC POM) game plan,” said Turia.
However it was Oro who seized the opportunity to take a stand to give the competition a much needed shake with their upbeat performance.
Oro led 1-0 in the first half courtesy of a Henry Ronny header, working off a Michael Lohai in the 35th minute.
Coming back into the second half and down by a man after Andrew Marampau was red carded for a foul, they were first to register in the second half through a Niel Hans penalty to level the scores.
Oro however come back strong, fighting harder and through that sterling effort it paid off with a goal from veteran Gary Moka.
Just realising how hard the Turia’s team were going, FC POM gained momentum and tried to score the equalizer but Oro’s Moses Arisib go for the killer blow in the 88th minute to seal the match with a 3-1 win.
In the match played over in Madang, Lae City Dwellers manage to hold Madang FC 1-0 till the final whistle.
