Wood’s low strike from just inside the area handed Birmingham a 34th-minute lead but the home side struck twice in the second half, through Robert Koren and Aaron McLean, to collect all three points and move up to sixth place.
Birmingham now lie in 14th spot, seven points off the top-six pace but with two games in hand.
Wood, on loan from Premier League side West Bromwich Albion, has now scored nine times in the league to sit third on the golden boot ladder.
The former Waikato FC starlet has also found the net twice in the UEFA Europa League where Birmingham currently sit third in Group H, needing a win against Maribor next Friday (NZT) to have any chance of progressing.
Wood made his New Zealand debut against Tanzania in 2009 as a 17-year-old and has so far featured 17 times for the All Whites, scoring one goal.
