The event is the preliminary qualifying tournament for the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup and will be held from September 29 to October 8 in Auckland.
Host nation New Zealand will be joined by teams from fellow OFC member associations Cook Islands, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tahiti, Tonga and Vanuatu.
The sides will be divided into two groups and will play a round robin schedule before the highest-placed teams take part in the semi-finals and final.
There will also be a play-off for third and fourth place.
The winner of the tournament will qualify for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, to be held in Germany from June 26 to July 17.
The host nation qualifies automatically, while Australia, Korea DPR and Japan have also booked their places in Germany through their success in the Asian Football Confederation Women’s Asian Cup.
New Zealand’s Football Ferns were the OFC representatives at the last Women’s World Cup in China in 2007.
Coach John Herdman’s side was drawn in Group D and lost all three of their pool play matches – 2-0 against both Denmark and China PR, and 5-0 against Brazil, who went on to finish as runners-up to Germany.
