The show is produced by the Tonga Football Association (TFA) and its screening follows a partnership between Digicel Tonga and TFA to promote grassroots football in the kingdom.
The move has been welcomed by TFA General Secretary ‘Ahongalu Fusimalohi.
“We are privileged to have the full support of Digicel Tonga as we drive to introduce our grassroots programme nationwide to encourage a healthy and active life for all Tongans,” Fusimalohi says.
“Digicel Tonga has done a great deal in promoting football in the country – in particular, the full coverage of FIFA World Cup 2010 – and continues to provide international football match coverage to viewers. We look forward to further strengthening this initiative by providing local content with TonFoot.”
DigiTV Manager Marc Santos is excited to provide a platform for TonFoot.
“On behalf of DigiTV, let me confirm that we are committed to providing as much airtime as possible to such an exciting development,” Santos says.
“I can confirm DigiTV will be broadcasting the 30-minute TonFoot show every Tuesday evening at 5.30pm on our prime channel Digi Entertainment and hope to promote the great game of football here in the Kingdom of Tonga to young and old.”
TFA Media Officer and TonFoot producer Tia Soakai says the increased exposure should see TonFoot go from strength to strength.
“DigiTV airtime is certainly an early Christmas present for TonFoot,” Soakai says.
“I am glad we are able to expand our viewership and maintain our presence on the local media scene. It’s always rewarding to have such great support from a great partner and I would like to thank the DigiTV management.”
TonFoot already screens free-to-air on Television Tonga’s TV1 at 7.30pm on Thursdays and, with the new partnership, DigiTV viewers will also be able to enjoy the magazine-style programme on the Digi Entertainment channel 1 every Tuesday at 5.30pm.
