The Papua New Guinea Football Association, in partnership with the National Soccer League’s technical department, organised the five-day seminar.
Held at the Don Bosco Technological Institute in Port Moresby, the purpose of the course was for local coaches to share their thoughts on how to improve on the knowledge and skills they had gained.
Among the participants were two female coaches, Susan Watpore and Edna Thomas, both from the Barra Football Club in the Lae Football Association.
The C Licence was facilitated by OFC Head of Coach Education and FIFA Coaching Instructor Didier Chambaron, who said the course was important as coaches prepare for the new NSL season.
Practical sessions helped the participants understand and execute what they learned during the classes, while Chambaron said it was important for the coaches to understand the relationship between training and the game.
“It doesn’t matter how good you are, but if you understand what type of game you want to play then you have to train accordingly,” he said.
“The coaches will do coaching practice for six months in their own club context, with the follow up conducted by PNGFA staff.
“Then after the six months there is an assessment for those who meet the OFC C Licence criteria.”
Chambaron said the course was an opportunity for the OFC to share ideas with its Member Associations, and he hoped the PNGFA would conduct more refresher courses to ensure coaches and managers were kept abreast of new coaching developments.
