The new season marks a new era for the Fiji Football Association, with two sides in line for relegation.
The Fiji FA has also scheduled double-headers to take place at various venues throughout the season, which is sure to excite local football fans.
“The Fiji FA will work out all the logistics,” says National Football League board chairman Sheik Ibrahim.
“We will book the ground, arrange ball boys, medical personnel and accommodation for the match officials. Expenses will be covered by the gate-takings, and then the net income will be shared equally amongst the participating teams.
“The running of a competition like the national league cannot be accommodated by the Fiji FA alone. It is through the support of the sponsors that we are able to carry out a competition of this nature.”
An official opening to the National League season is set to take place at Subrail Park where Northern sides Savusavu and Labasa will be in action. The battle for the title will begin at 1.30pm with Savusavu taking on Rewa, followed by Labasa against Navua.
Four matches have been lined up at Churchill Park in Lautoka. At 9am, the Lautoka U-21 side will take on Tavua’s U-21 squad followed by another U-21 match up between the Nadroga and Nadi sides at 11am. Then hosts Lautoka will play Tavua at 1pm followed by Nadroga against Nadi at 3pm.
Defending champs Ba and Suva are the only two sides not in action during the first round due to their Pillays Garments Champions League commitment.
They will face off on Sunday in the second leg of the two-match champions league series.
Ba need only to draw the match after defeating Suva 1-0 in the first leg last Sunday, while Suva will need to win by two goals away at in order to take the title from the defending champions.
The second and final leg of the Champions League takes place at Govind Park in Ba from 4pm on Sunday.
