The men pipped defending champions Moaula United to first place, eventually finishing five points ahead of their nearest rivals. Moaula can have no complaints in giving up their title, having been beaten in both games against Kiwi, 2-0 and 3-1 respectively.
The impressive Kiwi women’s team also had a memorable year, winning 16 and drawing only two of their games – against Central United and Vaimoso SC – to go through the season undefeated.
Kiwi coach Terry O’Donnell is delighted to have seen both sides do so well.
“It has been a great season for our club and the league titles are the perfect reward for all the hard work we’ve put into our training and games.”
O’Donnell is grateful for the support shown by the club’s fans and says such success couldn’t have been achieved without their dedication.
“We have enjoyed great backing from our supporters at every game and enjoy a special relationship with them,” he says.
Despite adding a couple more gongs to the trophy cabinet, O’Donnell says Kiwi SC are not satisfied with their season’s work just yet.
“The only thing you can do with champions is to give them more challenges and over the coming weeks we will try our utmost to retain the cup competition title we won last season.”
Kiwi SC was founded in 1977 through the fellowship of youth from the Apia area and the women’s team was established in 1988.
The club’s teams are also known for their haka, which they perform whenever a championship is won.
In the other leagues, Vaimoso SC won the SamoaTel First Division, while Moaula softened the blow of missing out on the men’s title by winning the Youth Boys U-15 Division.
