Ricki Herbert’s men will take on fellow World Cup finalists Honduras at Albany’s North Harbour Stadium on October 9 in the first game of a double-header.
The second match will take place against Paraguay, another side who took part in South Africa, three days later on October 12 at Westpac Stadium in Wellington.
New Zealand Football CEO Michael Glading says it was tough picking where to play the Honduras match but is encouraged by the interest that has been shown for football by all regions and councils around New Zealand.
“It’s not often that we face the dilemma of where to host two internationals inside a four-day window. Once the two fixtures were announced we received expressions of interest in hosting the matches from a number of venues,” he says.
“Logically, it makes sense for the Auckland region to host the match against Honduras as the population base gives us a great chance to sell out the ground and give the All Whites a rousing welcome home.
“North Shore City have provided generous support to attract the game to the city and ARTA will provide free public transport to the ground from key routes around Auckland.”*
The seating capacity at North Harbour Stadium will be increased to make sure the match is a success.
“I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Christchurch City Council for the effort they put into getting the All Whites to Christchurch for one of the two matches. Whilst we couldn’t make it happen this time, we will most certainly be discussing options for future home internationals.”
Tickets will be on sale to the public for both games from September 8, via Ticketek . Visit www.ticketek.co.nz for further details.
