Toronto FC lost 2-1 to Seattle with the Kiwi missing an excellent chance to equalise from close range during injury time when Seattle goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann denied him the glory.
“It would have been nice if I had finished those chances and it would have been a happy ending to leave BMO Field,” Brockie said after the match.
“But I’ve enjoyed my time here, the fans have been great and it’s just a shame I couldn’t put a few more in the back of the net for them.
“I’ve still got two more games and hopefully Colombus and DC are two winnable games. I’d like to finish up after DC with six points from these two games and go back happier than what I am now.”
Brockie joined the Ryan Nelsen coached side on loan from New Zealand-based A-League club Wellington Phoenix during the off-season and will return to join his teammates in the pre-season build-up before the new A-League season gets underway in October.
While he is looking forward to the new season, Brockie is also a little saddened to leave Toronto behind after having been made to feel incredibly welcome by both his teammates and the Toronto fans.
“They’re just a good bunch of boys, they welcomed me into the changing room from the first minute I got here,” he said.
“Obviously I came here to try and help Ryan and the team out and the last couple of results have been positive. This club’s heading in the right direction and I’ll take some good pointers Ryan’s given me back to the A-League – I will definitely miss my time here.”
While a return to Canada and the MLS isn’t currently on the cards, Brockie did reveal there have been some discussions on the matter.
“There were little brief discussions. Obviously I go back to New Zealand in two weeks and if the opportunity arises to come back to Toronto in the future I’ll take it with both hands.”
