Liverpool-born Dickinson has been a one-club man since arriving in New Zealand five years ago but has followed Bale west as head coach Brian Shelley continues to put a squad together he hopes will bring the ASB Premiership trophy back to Waitakere.
Shelley is delighted to have secured the signature of Dickinson and says the well-rounded nature of his attributes will be of great benefit to the Waitakere cause.
“Adam is an excellent addition to the squad as he is capable of playing in more than one position,” Shelley says.
“He is a complete forward who has a lot of different qualities and, most importantly, he can score goals.”
Player-coach Shelley is in a good position to judge the talents of his new signing as he has first-hand experience of dealing with the Englishman.
“I know how difficult he is to defend against as I have had to do it myself on many occasions,” he says.
Dickinson is the latest player to have put pen to paper with Waitakere since the conclusion of the previous campaign and forms part of an ever-growing group that also includes Bale and a host of returnees from last season, featuring Tristan Prattley and promising youngsters Harshae Raniga, Alec Solomons and Alex Carr.
“We are pleased with the progress of our recruitment but there is still much to be done over the coming weeks if we are to achieve our goals this season,” Shelley says.
The credentials of Dickinson would certainly suggest he is capable of helping those goals come to fruition. The former Tranmere Rovers player won the ASB Premiership and four OFC Champions League titles during his time at Auckland City and has appeared at four FIFA Club World Cups.
He has also been singled out for his individual efforts on more than one occasion, being named the club’s Players’ Player of the Year in 2012 and Supporters’ Player of the Year in 2013.
Waitakere fans will witness Dickinson in action in their own colours for the first time when the team begins its new ASB Premiership season with a home fixture against Wanderers SC on November 1.
