The ladies from Rarotonga’s west side travelled to the CIFA complex in Matavera with their confidence levels at an all-time high following a series of thrilling performances against Tupapa and Nikao Sokattak in the weeks leading up their final match.
Arorangi player-coach Samantha Lockington says she is happy to see her team earn its third Round Cup trophy after also taking the title in 2007 and 2009.
“I am extremely proud of our team’s achievement and we hope to continue to develop ourselves in the game of football and also to develop our young players for next season,” Lockington says.
“The round robin tournament was hard for us because we knew this year’s teams would all be gunning for the top spot honours. We stuck together through it all and now the rewards are a blessing.”
While expressing her congratulations to the players for a job well done, Lockington also thanked sponsor CIPS Image & Copy Centre for its continued support of women’s football.
It is the second consecutive year the company has sponsored women’s football and managing director Colin Burns says he is impressed with the achievements of the Arorangi women’s side.
“We are proud to sponsor this sporting activity for the second time this year. We are overwhelmed with the tenacity from not only this year’s winner, Arorangi, but from all the women’s teams here on Rarotonga,” he says.
