The 2011 O-League finalists have travelled to France twice before, Brive in 2006 and Colmar in 2008, to take part in the prestigious knockout cup competition.
Last year the side from Faa’a was narrowly beaten 2-1 in the seventh round by Red Star Saint-Ouen at home in Stade de Puurai.
With their best result being a spot in the seventh round, this time the Tefana players are hoping they won’t be affected by the long journey and cold temperatures, currently averaging 13 degrees, as they look to progress further.
Tefana are currently leading the Ligue Mana table with 20 points and have a number of notable players in the squad including brothers and national team members Alvin and Lorenzo Tehau.
Lorenzo was top scorer for Tahiti at the 2012 OFC Nations Cup, where the national side won the tournament for the first time, and will be looking to apply his golden touch against Pontivy.
Pontivy coach Nicolas Scourzic was appointed to the role in June this year before the beginning of the new season of the French Championship League, in which they are currently ranked sixth.
The side’s best finish is the eighth round, or the last 16, a feat they will repeat this year with a win over Tefana.
The Coupe de France is open to all amateur and professional football clubs in France, including clubs based in the overseas departments and territories, with the winner of the final qualifying for the group stage of the Europa League.
