It is now an opportunity for our young girls in Port Moresby to participate in the Centre of Excellence program in becoming future footballers for the country.
PNG Football Association kicked-off the program a week ago and now into its second week, every Tuesday and Thursday these girls, as young as 13-15 years old meet at Sir John Guise with their coaches where they go through advance football skills and small sided games.
This is an opportunity for talented players who have showed potential to be groomed and further enhance their football skills. With regular training under watchful eyes of development coaches, it is hoped that many of these players will have greater opportunity in being selected to represent the country in the near future.
Giving women and girls the means to participate in the world’s greatest game is a wonderful opportunity for PNG Football Association – not just because it is fair to balance up the opportunities between boys and girls, but because it makes football better and stronger to include everyone in our game.
This program is a FIFA and OFC program through PNGFA who have been piloting this program in Port Moresby to develop potential talents with the ability and skills to be football players. Those girls who have the skills are going through this programme as a next stage beyond the Just Play Program focusing on training these young girls with quality football techniques.
