FRANCE – Réunion has won the 2008 Coupe de L’Outre-Mer after securing a 1-0 win over Martinique at Stade Dominique-Duvauchelle at the weekend. Réunion swept to the trophy win after trouncing French Guiana and Mayotte in group play.
Réunion striker Mamadou Diallo finished top goalscorer with four strikes to his name. It was Diallo’s 47th minute goal that helped seal the Coupe de L’Outre-Mer against a Martinique team that had earlier beaten both Oceanian representatives New Caledonia and French Polynesia.
New Caledonia claimed 5th place with a narrow 3-2 win over Mayotte. It was the second win for Didier Chambaron’s men in the tournament and a third straight defeat for Mayotte.
French Polynesia – comprised of players from the AS Manu Ura club – also finished with three defeats but failed to progress to the play-offs after the group stage.
In the play-off for third place, Guadeloupe stormed to a 4-0 win over French Guiana thanks to goals from Lery Hernany (2), Jean-Luc Lambourde and Minnji Gomez.
