With a record of six wins from seven matches FC SKBC knocked three-time champions Pago Youth off their perch to claim the title.
“We are extremely proud and happy to be 2013 champions, especially after coming up from Division 2 last year,” says defender and club president Rafe Tala’Luvu.
FFAS President Faiivae Alex Godinet commended the side on their rapid rise to the top.
“Congratulations to FC SKBC for winning this year and we hope they prepare well for next year’s competition,” Godinet says.
The league MVP was awarded to FC SKBC striker Gun Kang who rounded out the season with a performance that saw him knock in two-goals against Pago B.
Winning the national league has its perks – as Pago Youth well know – with FC SKBC earning a spot in the 2014 OFC Champions League Preliminary.
American Samoa have the honour of hosting the 2013 edition of the OFC Champions League Preliminary where they will be represented by last season’s winners Pago Youth.
“This is not the end of the year for us as we have an international tournament taking place on our very grounds in October,” Godinet says.
“I hope our players, fans and clubs come out to support our representative in this competition.
“Following that tournament we will have our President’s Cup to close out the year so continue to play and practice as we lead up to that tournament.”
The promotion/relegation match between Division 1 seventh seed Black Roses and Division 2 runner up Vaiala Tongan is yet to come.
PanSa, champions of Division 2 for the 2013 season won an automatic spot in Division 1 for 2014 while Pago Youth B have been relegated after placing last in the top flight.
“It was a very competitive year and sadly for us we got things going late during our season,” Pago Youth president Silasila Samuelu says.
“Congratulations to FC SKBC for the win and we also want to thank everyone for their support as we prepare for the upcoming tournament.”
In the Women’s National League Black Roses have held on to earn back-to-back champions titles.
Black Roses defeated Kiwi Soccers 4-1 to take the glory after a run of fantastic results throughout the season. If the side can retain the title for the third year in a row come 2014 the cup will remain with the club.
“The president of our club Saili Ott and I would like to thank our players for again making the name Black Roses shine well with this championship title,” Black Roses vice-president John Ott says.
“Everyone worked together as a team to hold on to the FFAS National Cup and then played great in the playoffs to get the title.
“I want to thank our FFAS President Faiivae Alex Godinet and the committee as well as staff for a well run competition.”
Lornalissa Sagapolutele won the Women’s Nationla League MVP title for the second season in a row.
