Twenty-odd participants were on hand to share in the wealth of beach soccer knowledge that is Switzerland national team coach Angelo Schirinzi recently, among them a number of Tiki Toa.
The course covered the rules of the game, physical preparations, tactics, technique and psychology of the game.
Schirinzi shared his expertise of the game in the classroom before putting the participants to task out on the sand.
“It’s been a course with participants who are incredibly motivated, we’ve done some theory and also put that into practice and I think they’ve all learned a lot,” Shirinzi said.
“These coaches are all hard working but there’s still a lot for them to learn. One of the most important things to be a good coach is to know the players, adapt to them, communicate well – there’s a lot of factors that make up being a good coach.”
For beach soccer coach and course participant Tehina Rota, president of Miri Beach Soccer in Raiatea, it was an excellent opportunity to learn from the best.
“This was the second beach soccer coaching course that I’ve taken part in, and it’s without a doubt the most enriching one,” he said.
“Having the Tiki Toa here as well as the Swiss team, that’s great that we’ve had that during this competition. I think all of us, from each island, has developed an even greater drive to develop beach soccer further.”
The FIFA Beach Soccer Coaching Course was held from 31 March to 4 April in Tahiti.
