TAHITI – Tremendous Tefana served up a table-topping performance timed perfectly to serve notice to its closest rivals of its championship credentials last night. Tefana romped to a 5-1 hammering of hapless Excelsior to knock Tahiti U-20 off the top of Championnat D1 on goal difference.
A double strike from Rene Atrewe and goals to Rino Moretta, Roihau Degage and Temarii Tinorua sent AS Tefana on its way to victory.Area Resopawero pulled back a consolation goal for Excelsior who had its first taste of life in D1 after last week’s gentle introduction against JT.
Meanwhile, TAC’s opening season blues continued after it lost 3-2 to AS Tamarii Faaa in an exciting encounter at Stade Pater. William Tauraa and John Lee Tham were on target for TAC but Tamarii Faaa were not to be denied their first win of the new campaign with Teva Vanfaut, Tehina Temorere and Luc Huuwa guiding Faaa home.
AS Manu Ura will play in the Coupe de ligue d’OUTRE-MER between 20 September and 5 October and will resume Championnat D1 action upon their return.
AS Tefana face similar international commitments when it participates in the Coupe de France between 10 November and 24 November as holders of the Coupe de Polynesie Francaise.
In the race for the Championnat D1 Golden Shoe award, Tahiti U-20 striker Steevy Chong Hue leads with four goals, ahead of AS Tefana pair, Angelo Tchen and Rene Atrewe, Tahiti U-20 team-mate Jay Warren, AS Dragon’s Raimana Li Fung Kuee and Hiro Labaste of ‘Les Oranges’, AS Pirae.
