The 34-year-old has reportedly undergone a medical at his prospective new club and could be set for a reunion with former manager Mark Hughes, the man who gave Nelsen his chance at the elite level when he signed the Kiwi for Blackburn Rovers in 2005.
Nelsen, who missed the All Whites’ disappointing OFC Nations Cup campaign due to injury, joined Tottenham from Rovers in a last-ditch move during the January transfer window and made eight appearances for the London-based club, scoring once.
But the departure of Spurs manager Harry Redknapp put his future in doubt and he now seems likely to head across the capital to link up with Hughes once more.
He will face a rather different challenge as, in contrast to Redknapp’s high-flying Spurs side, Queens Park Rangers narrowly avoided relegation from the top flight last season and finished in 17th place, just one spot away from the drop.
Centre-back Nelsen says he owes Hughes a lot and his former manager’s presence at the club was a major factor in his interest in coming to Queens Park Rangers.
Nelsen is believed to have passed his medical and is said to have agreed a one-year deal with the option of a further season.
