Papua New Guinea Football Association general secretary Dimirit Mileng says the competition will once again be fierce as the regional champions compete for the FA Cup title.
On the women’s draw card for the semi-final Kimbe, representing New Guinea Islands will play Kainantu of Highlands while local Momase regional champions Madang will play the defending champions PMSA, of Southern region.
Meanwhile in the men’s competition the defending champions PMSA and Higturu representing Southern region, Madang and Lae playing for Momase, Manus of New Guinea Islands and Goroka from the Highlands will play off for a spot in the grand final.
The men’s competition is divided into two pools with the top two teams from each pool set to progress to the semi-finals.
Adding to Mileng’s pleasure at seeing the regional competition moving into the knockout stages is the confirmation of International Food Corportation’s continued support.
IFC CEO Rosedean Zaily Dzulkfli says the company has supported grassroots football in Papua New Guinea since 2011 and will continue to do that.
“The event has slowly built up momentum from the year it started adn the number of teams participating has further increased,” he says.
He says the company is pleased to be associated with football in PNG as it promotes unity, team work and encourages discipline among players who continue that practice off the field.
The Besta FA Cup Finals are being held from 2-4 October in Lae.
